PEOPLE in Tokyo have begun consulting a new prediction service – the electric power forecast. And unless they can save electricity at key times, they face a summer of power blackouts, thanks to the enforced shutdown of most of the capital’s nuclear power stations.
Running on TV, radio, the web and in local newspapers, the forecasts are designed to encourage households to turn off gadgets that use too much power – like air conditioners.
