GLOBAL warming is bringing new arrivals to British shores. Since 1980, 18 new fish species have been caught off the Cornwall coast, as species from farther south move in as the water warms up. From 1960 to 1980, however, no new species were recorded (Journal of the Marine Biological Association, vol 82, p 177). “There is such a clear signal, quite mind-boggling to see,” says Tony Stebbing of the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, who led the study.
