Canada’s ministry of health is disregarding warnings from its own scientists
about drugs that should not be given to farm animals. Shiv Chopra and Margaret
Haydon, employees of the bureau of veterinary drugs, last week appeared before a
public commission appeal board. “Pressure has been mounting to pass or maintain
a series of drugs which are generally reported to produce cancer, antimicrobial
resistance and other human health disorders,” they say in a letter to health
minister Allan Rock. They claim their advice has been overruled by the head of
