Internet security is not yet reliable enough to allow online voting, says a
report from the US National Science Foundation. The White House asked the NSF to
look into Internet voting following the debacle of last November’s Presidential
election. But an expert committee concluded last week that e-voting requires
more stringent security than e-commerce. “It’s not like buying a book over the
Internet,” says committee chairman Daniel Mote. “Remote Internet voting
technology will not be able to meet this standard for years to come.”
