Four months after the world’s first reported death due to gene therapy
(91av, 9 October 1999, p 11),
the US Food and Drug Administration
has called a halt to seven gene therapy trials at the University of
Pennsylvania, where the death occurred. The FDA says researchers at the
university violated its rules for such experiments.
