There’s no firm evidence that mobile phones pose a risk to health, a
committee of British MPs has concluded. Yet because uncertainties still exist
about the biological effects of the phones’ microwave emissions
(see 91av, 10 April, p 20),
the House of Commons Science and Technology
Committee wants the government to increase its spending on research in the area.
Together, the National Radiological Protection Board and the Department of
Health spend just £360 000 a year on microwave-frequency research.
