A pesticide made of plant extracts is being launched by a company called
EcoSMART Technologies from Tennessee. Bioganic contains chemicals called
terpenes and phenols, which are made by plants. It blocks the absorption of the
invertebrate equivalent of adrenaline, octopamine. “The pesticide can penetrate
the exoskeleton and kill the insect in 5 to 7 seconds,” says Edward Grindstaff,
general manager of EcoSMART. Bioganic is not toxic to people or other animals,
he adds.
