In the US alone, 40 million people may need medical treatment during the next
global flu epidemic, and 200 000 may die. It’s only a matter of time before the
next flu pandemic arrives. And in a paper due to appear in the September issue
of Emerging Infectious Diseases, researchers at the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention in Atlanta predict it will cost the US $166
billion.
