Three-dimensional TV is being brought to Japan by C-3D Digital of Salt Lake
City, Utah, which has developed a system that produces a 3D effect from a
standard TV screen. C-3D’s digital set-top box generates pairs of images
designed to be observed through liquid-crystal goggles synchronised so that each
eye sees alternate frames. The Tokyo broadcaster 3D Television is buying C-3D’s
system for transmission on SkyPerfect TV, Japan’s pay-per-view satellite TV
service. C-3D has also licensed Pick Communications of Miami, Florida, to
transmit 3D images compatible with Microsoft’s Windows Media Player over the
Internet.
