Zarya, the Russian-built module that is the first component of the
International Space Station, developed a clutch of faults soon after its launch
two weeks ago. An overcharging solar battery and defects in the reserve docking
system have now been rectified, but the system controlling humidity in the cabin
is still malfunctioning. Russian officials say this problem should right itself
within two weeks.
