Mario Vargas Llosa may have left Peru in body, but not in spirit. His latest novel, Death in the Andes, looks at how Indian spirituality and culture have contributed to the evolution of Peruvian society. Set in an isolated community in the Andes, the story also sheds light on the unrest and violence in the country today. The paperback is now out, published by Faber & Faber, £6.99, ISBN 057117549X.
