Pioneers of the net

4 July 1998

The Internet would not exist without Alan Turing’s work on computable
numbers. Last week, his genius was noted when English Heritage unveiled a plaque
at his birthplace in Maida Vale, in northwest London. Find out more about his
life at http://www.turing.org.uk/turing/. The site is maintained by Andrew
Hodges, author of the definitive biography, Alan Turing—the Enigma.
