In India, a country where the majority of people hold the cow sacred, the
BSE story must be particularly puzzling: “They fed them bits of other cows.
Why?” A government-funded science communication unit, Vigyan Prasar, tries to
explain what happened in Mad, Mad, Mad Cow by Kunal Roy and Santosh Kar. A
worthy aim, but it’s an ill-organised account and clumsily written. Published by
Rakmo Press, 99 rupees, ISBN 8174800204.
