Dirty Business is an account of the events and manoeuvring that led to the
giant tobacco firms being hauled into court in the US for poisoning the public.
Peter Pringle’s intention was to be comprehensive and the book is a bit too
long. Astonishment at the shenanigans, dishonesty and hypocrisy indulged in by
all parties deep in the legal mire may propel you through the detail. Lawyers’
cupidity easily accommodated the hair-raising sums of money involved. A reader
may be led to the conclusion that there is something to be said for the policy
suggested by Dick the butcher in Henry VI Part 2 (see headline). Published by
