British Telecom is to launch a new telephone later this year that combines a
digital cellphone with a cordless phone. The OnePhone will work as a cordless
phone around the home and garden, making and taking calls on an ordinary phone
line. But when the phone is taken beyond the 300-metre range of the home base
station, it will automatically become a digital cellphone. BT is still working
out how to bill customers, as the charges for cellphones are more expensive than
those for the ordinary lines.
