Eavesdropping has become highly sophisticated, with sensitive microphones
that can pick up conversations from a long distance or from inside a
room—threatening sensitive business and political negotiations. Inventor
C. A. Kury of Teaticket, Massachusetts, says the answer for people who want a
truly private conversation is to wear a device like a gas mask (WO 98/1008).
The mask has a built-in microphone wired up to a pair of headphones that the
other person wears. Because the electric signals travel by wire, there is no
risk of eavesdropping.
