Newswire : Don't panic

28 March 1998

There is no evidence that the multiple vaccine against measles,
mumps and rubella causes bowel problems or autism in the children who receive
it, says a committee convened by Britain’s Medical Research Council.

The international panel was asked to consider the vaccine’s safety in the
wake of a study suggesting a link between vaccination and these illnesses
(This Week, 7 March, p 4).
Committee chairman John Pattison of University College
London calls for further research to dispel any remaining doubts.
