British universities are fighting the Cancer Research Campaign’s decision to
stop funding institutions that accept research money from tobacco firms. If the
research has no connection with tobacco, “it may even be considered illegal for
a university to reject offers of funding”, notes Diana Warwick, chief executive
of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals.
