Paul Bahn has updated his reissued Journey Through the Ice Age to
include some striking recent discoveries, such as the Cosquer and Chauvet caves
in France. As he says: “We are currently in the most exciting and progressive
phase of Ice Age art studies.” This is due largely to the advances made in
analysing pigments and dating techniques. Jean Vertut’s stunning photographs
