Will Mars provide a clue to how life forms? The Rivers of Mars by Piers
Bizony (Aurum Press, London, £9.95, ISBN 1 85410 495 0) cuts through the
jargon and entertainingly balances Martian rivers, weather and the results of
the Viking space probe’s search for life with a review of what the
“worm-infested” Antarctic meteorite ALH84001 revealed. Even though
extraterrestrial life should be ubiquitous, Bizony convinces us that we still
have to look hard before we find it.
