As of this week, New South Wales claims that it has
the largest and most up-to-date medical research centre in the southern
hemisphere. The claim follows the opening last Monday of a new $46
million building at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney. The
Garvan carries out research into breast cancer and prostate cancer, diabetes and
obesity, osteoporosis and other bone disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, and mental
illness.
