I WOULD like to point out right away that the best bird photograph I’ve ever taken was of a gull eating fries at McDonald’s, and even that had part of my finger in it. It’s from this novice perspective, , that I’d like to suggest that all working and wannabe bird photographers will benefit from Creative Bird Photography. The stunning, colourful close-up of a king penguin’s neck on the cover tells us immediately that his pictures won’t be like our fathers’ bird photos. And while the photos are enough to make us get off the couch and run outside with our camera, it’s the text that makes this such a valuable book. The discussion of equipment is honest and candid, while Coster’s unpretentious style takes the reader on an enjoyable adventure, as he offers a wealth of helpful photography tips, like keep your fingers “behind” the lens. Now he tells me.
