Review: The Mad Science Book by Reto Schneider

Reto Schneider gathers together 100 of the more esoteric science experiments from the last 700 years

IF YOU thought you’d reached your squeamish limit when your school biology teacher dissected that frog, think again. Reto Schneider has gathered together 100 rather more esoteric studies from the last 700 years, from swallowing other people’s vomit to prove that yellow fever cannot be passed on, to staying awake for 90 hours to see if electric shocks can waken you after you finally go to sleep. We don’t see these in our school labs, but somebody bothered to do the research so why shy away? It’s better than picking up the scalpel for yourself. I loved it.

Read about some of the best experiments from the book, including remote control bullfighting and sleeping in a cave
