Buskers who want to melt into the crowd when the police arrive will love this
idea for a foldable guitar from Stephen Corsi of Los Angeles (GB 2363508). He
says guitarists have long wished for an instrument they can carry in small hand
baggage “for impromptu use”. His answer is a slim acoustic guitar with a hinge
at the base of the neck. Unlike a standard guitar, its strings are firmly
anchored to the head, at the top of the neck. They are tuned by winding them
around a drum inside the instrument’s body. As the neck folds down for storage,
the drum turns to take up the slack on the strings. Opening it up unwinds the
drum just far enough to keep the strings taut and in tune from the last
session.
