In the movie Marathon Man, an evil Nazi dentist, played by Laurence
Olivier, hides a vicious knife up his sleeve: a flick of the wrist and the
weapon emerges. Now Italian inventor Franco Caldana is adapting the principle
for quick and easy access to a mobile phone (WO 01/61970). The handset is
clipped to guide rails on a plate, which is fastened to the inside of the wrist
with a watch strap. An incoming call vibrates the phone, and the devil-may-care
owner simply jerks their arm to flick the phone smoothly into their palm, ready
for instant action. When the call is finished, a reverse flick of the wrist
sends the phone back up the sleeve.
