Patents filed by Innomind of Hong Kong reveal how digital watches may look in
the future (GB 2361345/6). The LCD is oval instead of rectangular, and the
pixels at the centre are manufactured to be larger than those at the edges. So
the displayed image looks as though it’s projected on a sphere. Moving the image
across the display makes it appear to bulge out, as though seen through a fish
eye lens. The inventors say the watch can also be used as a portable gaming
device. You can play fruit machine games on it, for instance, where shaking the
watch activates a motion sensor which sets the wheels spinning on the display.
