Efforts by Western governments to avert a millennium bug disaster may be
futile. A World Bank survey, released last week, shows that only 38 per cent of
139 developing countries have appointed a Y2K coordinator, and of these
countries, only 15 per cent have done anything to prevent the problem. This
could lead to global economic instability, the bank says.
