Many of us are used to services like Microsoft’s Hotmail at
http://www.hotmail.com, which provide free e-mail and file storage facilities
via a web browser. But now Dixons, the biggest electronics retailer in Britain
is going one step further: it wants to become an Internet Service Provider and
charge no fees for connecting you to the Net. It will be paid for by web
advertising, running online sales offers and letting other companies sell online
services to you.
