Freezing human eggs for fertilisation later on has moved a step closer in
Britain. For £2800, women who wish to put off having a baby can store
their eggs at the Assisted Reproduction and Gynaecology Centre (ARGC) in London.
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority says the eggs can’t be used
until the technique is proved safe and the ban is lifted. But ARGC medical
director Mohamed Taranissi says he expects to win approval within a year. At
least eight children have been born so far from defrosted eggs in countries such
as the US and Italy, where reproductive technology is not so tightly
regulated.
