A palmtop computer with the power of a desktop machine is being patented by
the IBM research centre in Armonk, New York (EP 809 172). The computer is split
into two units. The main unit, with central processor and disc drives, has a
heavy duty battery. The handheld unit has a touch-sensitive LCD screen, which
needs only a small battery. The radio link enables the palmtop to retrieve and
store information on the main unit’s hard disc.
